For years I’ve been saying I want to learn how to cook. I had apartment style dorms for most of college and always marveled at the things my friends could create. I watched them cook and thought, “It doesn’t look so difficult.” In truth, I had no idea what they were doing. I could clean up after them really well. I can bake well. I just didn’t know how to cook.
In the last year or two, I’ve really made an effort to eat healthier. More salads, whole grains, fewer sweets. A large part of that was really understanding what I was eating. Of course, when you cook, you know exactly what you are eating.
I read food blogs in an attempt to learn about food and cooking. For a year or so I’ve read food blogs trying to get a sense of what to cook. Unfortunately, I never had those ingredients on hand, which meant one of two things. Either I went to the store and spent a whole lot of money for all of the ingredients for some meal and then scrambled not to waste the rest or I didn’t cook at all. The latter was more common than the first.
I’d been debating starting a blog of my own for a while. I wanted it for several reasons, but the two bigs ones are to motivate myself to cook and to keep track of all of the recipes I love. One Saturday I woke and made muffins. Then I made more muffins. I thought, “well, if I’m going to start a food blog, today’s the day.”
So I did. And here it is!
